There is a lot of classical composer who are genius in this day and age.

Nobuo Uematsu (who composed the music for the video game franchise Final Fantasy 1 through 10 and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra played his music), there is also Philip Glass (who composed many music for Sesame Street and was a pionnier of recorded sound), John Cage (who his famous for making music out of non musical instrument, his pholosophies toward music and his famous composition 4'33).

A lot of local cover bands here are now branching to weddings, mostly for the $ and for the fact you don't need to constantly learn current trends.

Here on the Jersey Shore (yes I said it) most bands are cover bands. They still do stuff only cougars and old stoners want to hear. They wonder why they don't draw.

I am looking for musicians who will play and learn more current stuff, and yes "classic" hits by the Jonas Brothers and the American Idol winners. Throw in Miley and Alisha/JayZ, top with Paramore, and then if I am drunk enough Bieber. I know with that I can pack any bar on a Friday or Saturday night.

Or how about a band with one simple rule: do no songs which don't have a video with at least 50 million views on Youtube, or maybe even 100 million for those more than 6 months old? I think for the US non-country market that would work.

For the lower end ''VFW hall' type weddings you are right. For the high end stuff, IMO it is even more competitive with hip hop DJ's, even at the very top end of the corporate/private event category.
