A guy in my rock/metal band sent me an mp3 of a band called, wait for it this is funny, GOATSNAKE, yep that's right, "GOAT" "SNAKE", but as one word. What a ridiculous band name!!
This particular track sounded like an ensemble of road drills and typewriters, with an angry bear on vocals, which is why I wondered about this hoover-metal Bruce seems to know so much about?!

Locrian, yeah tis a tricky one to fit in, since none of my bands tend to use b5ths all that often, a shame cause I like locrian

Actually I kind of hint at a Min7b5 in one tune when we go from CMaj7 to F#Min to F#Maj and I use a flat 5th to move to the root of F# Min - the chords are softly played on the one and let ring so I what I play doesnt clash too strongly later in the bar. Any old excuse to introduce to dissonance in my own "wish I could play jazz" style

Q, if you're playing a Maj7 chord and you play locrian mode starting on the 7th are you actually playing locrian or are you just extending the major scale... and does it actually bloody matter?!

Yeah, so would I - since it will sound so over the Maj7 chord

In which case, no cant say I ever use locrian 'properly' either, shame, must write some thing with a min7b5's in tehre and persuade the guys to play it.. muscial or not I shall play locrian!

the most exotic we ever get is the odd diminished or augmented - and even then it's not usually required to play a line that has enough notes to really qualify as being of a scale. i usually find myself using a couple of chord tones... aah the life of a humble bass player...

But I wouldn't.
I personally think Locrian is great for metal (although I prefer Phrygian) and AFAIK metallica uses Locrian alot
