hey, like i said, i wasn't rubbing anything in your nose per se, but more commenting on how NO seems to still have the old "just when you thought nothing worse could happen" playbook that used to be the institutional standard of that team. saints fans don't deserve that.

i hope they don't play outta that one next week, tbh. seriously. i think ben needs the real deal - yesterday was lucky and last week was warmup. if the steelers are going to do anything substantial this year they need to be firing 100%, and imo ben's the weak link atm. he can't enter midseason still knocking off the rust, and that's what it looks like he's doing, at least to me.

so win or lose, i hope the saints have their game on, if for no other reason then because ben needs a wakeup call, imo. cuz if they don't, and the steelers win with ben sleepwalking, the reality check is gonna be that much worse down the road, and we don't need another 2nd half of the season like last year.

Except the Steelers have been playing, and winning against better teams than the Saints. The total combined record of the teams the Saints have beat this season is 8-17. By comparison the combined record of teams that you've lost to is 10-10.

By comparison the combined record of teams the Steelers have wins over is 19-14, and have only lost to a very good 5-2 Ravens. It's not overconfidence to say what Mike said at all. The Steelers have been playing MUCH better football against MUCH stiffer competition.

I have two concerns regarding my Steelers next week:

1. Injuries. Aaron Smith is out for the season. Kirschke is still out, as far as I know. That leaves Casey Hampton as the only starter on the D-line. Lamar Woodley got hurt. That's a huge loss. Still not sure about the O-line. Trai Essex's ankle still hasn't allowed him to come back. The big tackle from Dallas got hurt. (Why can't I think of his friggin' name??!!!) Anyway, a whole lot of injuries to overcome.

2. The Saints are coming off of a stinkin' loss that I'm sure has them totally disgusted. They're gonna' come out like a house on fire hoping to get the ship righted.

So while I'm hopeful, I'm not especially optimistic about next week. I AM hoping Roethlisberger feels hungry to make up for fumbling at the goal line. Even though it turned out okay for the Steelers, Ben could easily have been the goat.

However, I'm not concerned about the Saints conjuring up any kind of extra effort as revenge. While the Saints are a good team, they just don't have "it" this year.

For this trip, I opted to do my pre-game festivities with the local Saints fans instead of my traditional Steeler buddies I meet on the road. That is how much I like NOLA and the people. Regardless of who wins, we all agreed to meet at Charlie's after the game.
