Long or short scale Cobalt flats for Epiphone Newport?

Anyone here tried Ernie Ball Cobalt flats on Epiphone’s recent reboot of the Newport bass?

These basses tend to want medium scale strings, as many short scale sets out there are too short to accommodate the bridge. To my knowledge, Cobalts aren’t offered in medium scale, but I’ve read here on TB that there are people out there who have put them on this bass. If that’s you, then I’m wondering if it’s the long scale or the short scale set that fits.

How fat or skinny are the tuner posts on that bass? Fender-style or something smaller?

You definitely don't want the short-scale set as the full winding will end up coming up short of the nut. It's a question of whether the full winding on the "long scale" E string can wrap around the post without breaking.

By the way, the Dunlop Flats do come in "medium scale" with 34" winding length (ball end to taper/silk).

Definitely not a given. Both the strings' winding length (ball to silk) and the tailpiece-to-nut distance are 32.5".

I saw that, thanks. Kinda wanna try EB Cobalts on the bass, though.
