It seems that many folks that play five stringers like a longer scale, like 35". Is there some reason other than personal preference that longer scales and fivers match up? Is it playability? Or perhaps the tonal quality of the B-string?

The slightly longer scale adds a hint more tension to the strings, making for a tighter B. I definitely prefer a 35" scale for a low B. For regular EADG it is a little tight. It seems that many folks that play five stringers like a longer scale, like 35".
