Hello TalkBass! I've learned a lot from TB over the years and finally bookmarked the site after having almost every question I entered into Google leading me here. I started playing bass in HS - baptism by fire joining the Jazz Band without really knowing how to read music but it was a good way to learn really quickly. After playing in cover/original bands for about 15 years I then took 25 off for career and family before getting roped back in a few years ago by one of my oldest friends (who is a good guy despite being a drummer). That project didn't pan out but I've worked in a few different bands since then and was gigging pretty steadily pre-COVID (and hope to again when it's safe to do so). Happy to be a part of the community - I don't know if I'll ever have an answer for anyone that the collective wisdom of TB doesn't beat me to but hopefully at some point I can assist someone else the way TB has helped me.

Thanks everyone! The GAS hit hard when I got back into playing - right now I've got a 4-string MIJ Fender Marcus Miller JB, a newly acquired Sire VV7 5, for humbucking coverage I've got a G&L Tribute L2000 + L2500, and an Ibanez SR375F fretless 5'r. I also recently grabbed a USA G&L M2000 which plays like butter but may have made it click in my head that I prefer single coil to humbuckers - that one may be going back or be sold to finance another Genzler cabinet to go along with my MG800 and BA 12-3.

Wow - that's a lot of stuff when you type it out like that...

Oh - you’ll do fine here! :)

Welcome and enjoy! Lots of good info here, much in areas you would never even think of.

TB has made a lot of changes over the years, but people willing to help others has never been lacking. You will always have the grumpy ones waiting around to chastise a person asking a question they have determined to have been asked too many times in the past, but they are on every site.

My father always said was no dumb questions; it’s how we learn.

Enjoy the site and ask away. We don’t have anything better to do!
