Lookin for light amp.

Well, I'm pretty much sick of luggin super heavy crap around. Right now I'm using a Carvin BX1200 head a 4space rack case with a Wireless and Compressor in it. Also have a Carvin BRX10.4 Neo cab.

I've been lookin at a BX500 for a long time since I do like the carvin products and they've never treated me badly. But I've also been way outta touch with the new bass equipment for a while. So, any recommendations? Budget is roughly $500 and I play Rock/Metal. Thanks!

Lot's of micro heads to be had from Gallien Krueger, Genz Benz, Markbass, Ampeg, and TC.

Personally, I'd suggest a used Markbass LMII or III with a Sansamp for some tube grit and slight overdrive. The Markbass only weighs 6lbs :)

Phry...I have a Carvin B2000 under 1 year old that I'm thinking about selling. 14 lbs for 750-2000 watts depending on your ohms. I have it in the 2U road case so it's probably 25 lbs, but it is durable enough to carry around with no case. Sounds like you may already have a case anyway. let me know if you're interested.

I think the B2000 might be overkill for me man, thanks though.

How does volume compare with the BX1200 vs the BX500? Since the BX500 is tube and the BX1200 isn't.

+1 to MarkBass + Sansamp combination.

Also - we are indeed in a middle of some lighweight bass amp oubreak. There are new one appearing on the market all the time. Since people warmed up to the digital power amp concept, there's been no stopping the manufacturers :)

Every man and his dog that used to have some half-decent preamp design will now have it combined with a digital poweramp in a lightweight head. I don't think you will have any problem in finding a suitable amp. It the old, heavy, tubey ones that are threatened species.

Well despite owning the MB + Sansamp combo myself, I also own an SVT that I'm not parting with anytime soon ;)
