Looking At Making a Billy-Sheehan-esque Subwoofing Sidewinder

My current build involves doing something Wife-like, and using a subwoofing pickup deep in the neck area, a la The Wife, or more accurately the The Yamaha Attitude Bass 30th Anniversary edition.

However, instead of doing a typical humbucker design, I want to do a sidewinder like an EB0 or EB1, but with more clarity.

Is there any solid material on how to create a sidewinder pickup? Like pole orientation, polarity, wiring schematics, diagrams, solid intel, the works? I'm flexible in my design but I definitely want to nail down the main principles.

Thoughts?

Over in the Luthier's Corner section, we have a long detailed thread all about the techniques for building custom pickups. Full custom, from scratch, making all the parts, crazy designs and configurations. And we get deep into the basic theory of different designs. Some of the folks show the development of interesting sidewinders. That thread is the best resource on custom pickup making that I know of on the web. I'm one of the big contributors.
