Looking for a 35" 4 string

Fender Jazz DLX USA 2011 was an active / passive 35 scale. I have one, really nice bass.

My budget isn't really set. I'm not in a rush, and an aquisition would be for long term use. I'd only pay more than $2000 if it was a custom shop, or like an ESP. I've considered the Solar, actually. I'm kind of hoping that they'll release a few other colour/finish variants. I think their "carbon matte black" looks so uninspiring.

I kind of dig that! I prefer super strat body shapes over Spector/Warwick looks, but that looks amazing.

Pretty specific set of requirements. Don't know if it exists. Might have to exclude a requirement whether its the scale, the body style, the string size, whatever.

Fanned frets are a solution. They are easy to play with the fretting hand. They are not necessarily easy for the plucking/picking hand. If you do any palm work it can seriously mess with your technique. Some might be able to adapt their palm work from standard bridge to fanned fret bridge but I definitely could not.

They are specific, but this is a long term project, and it's not like I expect to find something that meets every requirement. If I end up buying a Peavey Cirrus, I'd just refret it with SS frets whenever the original frets get too worn. I rarely palm mute, so fanned frets is not a problem. I like playing fanned frets.

So far, the best candidates I've found are probably the LTD M-1004 (whenever ESP bother actually producing them), buying a used Peavey Cirrus or going the custom shop route. There's a Cirrus going for 16000 NOK/$1550 where I live, which I think is quite high for the Norwegian market.

FWIW I found a few 4 string 35ers in the body style you mentioned by filtering Sweetwater... see if this link works.

Another bolt on 35" scale that fits your request and is way under your $2k budget is the Peavey Millennium. There is a JMM and JJ version. I've owned both and own the jazz still. It has mad growl, too.

If you can find one, try a Yamaha RBX 774. They are a long discontinued, bolt-on active bass with a 35” scale, individual string bridges, dead quiet electronics, and a very articulate, punchy tone. They came in gloss black, satin silver and a very cool satin blue. The controls are simple V-T with pickup selector and a mid-boost or ‘solo’ switch. They are nicely engineered and were built to sell for $800 back in 2003 but Sam Ash and Musicians Friend blew ‘em out the door for $249 after Yamaha discontinued the model. True sleepers, I have a four & a five (775) as part of my “permanent” collection. The latter gets lots of stage time, it’s got a low B to die for.
