Looking for a good quality lightweight bass

I was playing at practice last night with my fender P bass and was loving the tone so much. I tried to take notice of my posture and found that I was kind of slumping a bit. Inbetween songs, I made sure to swing my bass over to the right side of my body and hold it up with my right hand taking the weight off my strap alltogether. This is kind of awkward but gave me some temp relief. I just love the sustain and tone of my 9LB P so much that I am going to entertain the thought of a Y strap. Maybe if I get one in black and always wear a black shirt when gigging, I won't look I'm wearing suspenders. LOL Any suggestions on good manufacturers of Y straps in black? :)

I don't actually know where to a Y strap, though I've seen a few!

Don't know what kind of stage show you're putting on, but there's also a stand that will hold the bass by the bottom of the body so you can stand and play without even holding it. Might be worth it even if it's just for practice/rehearsal.

If you REALLY need a lightwood bass, try plywood.

I'm being serious. Low end, cheap, but EXTREMELY lightweight. I tried a plywood JB clone. Played fine, sounded fine. Just put some nice pups in it.

The body must have weighed 3 pounds, the neck another 3 or 4. Felt like air.

Update: I received my 1991 Fender P bass Lyte today. Gave it a quick look over and was pleased with the overall look. Red with gold trim. I went home and grabbed a fresh set of bass boomers and put them on. The neck had a slight bow to it but a couple quarter turns of the truss rod and it was right where I wanted it. I put it on the same scale that I weighed my P bass on. The P was 9 LBS and the P Lyte was 7.4 LBS.
Took it to practice and played it for about four hours. YES a pound and a half makes a difference. I think primarily from the light neck not pulling down on my left shoulder. It didn't have the thump of the P but the active electronics really suprised me. I didn't touch my amp. Just tweaked the knobs on the bass till I had the sound I liked.
Back didn't hurt as much as with the P and that really made my day.
I'm definately going to invest in another lightweight bass. Probably a Aerodyne.

I haven't read the whole thread. But for ergonomics nothing beats the wieght and balance of a headless bass, along with a full size yet chambered body.

I made my own about 7 years ago.... and many more since then. I own 4 headless basses that i have made- I don't think I'll ver go back to the headstock design. Besides, getting the occasional comments on the headless "wierdness", there are no drawbacks to me.
