Looking for a good quality lightweight bass

+1 on the Ibanez basses. I personally own 2 GSRM20 Mikros and love them (about 6 lbs) but I have also played some of the long-scale Ibbys and they are also very light and comfortable. You may not like the neck and tone as much as I do, though.
 
When your back hurts...any reduction makes a difference.

Danelectro makes a light bass, but that Fender P-Lyte you played would be worth searching out.

The Bass Company makes some lighter basses. They are chambered and that keeps the weight down to 7-8lbs. Mine is on the left side in the pic.
