looking for a new bass amp

I am looking for a new amp because all I have right now is and Ashdown MAG300 C115 combo. It clips when it is turned up halfway loud and i would like more volume without the clipping. I've tried working with the EQ and the volume knobs but nothing really fixes it. So that is why i want to get a new amp. I want something that is under $1000. Something that will cut through in a group. I don't care whether it is a combo or a stack. I am willing to go used.

and would it help with the clipping if i got cab for my current amp. I plugged into a homemade cab which has a 200 watt speaker just like the one in my amp, but the amp is 300watts. The cab didnt help.

any suggestions are appreciated :P

It seems to me you should have more than enough power with that amp for most situations. I have a Fender Bassman 250/115 that I use for rehearsals and to be honest it could do any gig we do in a small/medium sized venue.

If you are adding an extension cab, make sure that both cabs are 8 ohms or you'll mess up your amp, you can't go below a 4ohm load with that model. A "200 watt" speaker doesn't mean much, what's important is the ohm load.......is this "homemade cab" a bass cab? I'm not sure you can add an extension cab without disconnecting the speaker in the combo (that's very common with amps in that price range), that could be the source of your clipping.

You can clip you amp easily if the bass eq is turned way up on your bass. There is also a difference between pre-amp and power amp clipping. Is this clipping you can hear?

I'm just not sure from your post that the problem is with with the amp......it seems you should have enough power and volume with what you have.

well the bass cab has the exact same blueline 1x15 my amp has.. I leave the EQ flat on my bass. and the eq on my amp isn't very extreme either. If i were to get a cab it would be something with 10" speakers. And I can hear the clipping. Ive dialed all of my EQ settings way down but that doesnt really help too much.

so if i got a different cab or replaced the blueline driver in my amp the clipping might stop or be greatly reduced?
Possibly. The Blueline specs result in a driver that literally can't deliver a strong low end, and if you try to get it you may end up just clipping the amp in a futile quest for what the speaker just can't give. I'd try the amp section with a pair of good 2x10s to hear what it's really capable of.

I know you said that you've tweeked things on the amp itself, but I'd be curious exactly where you're input volume is set regarding the clipping. Also, what bass? In other words, is it possible that you're bass is really hot coming into the amp and that your input is turned up too high as well? Maybe not, just an idea that you may have already tried but I thought I'd throw it out there.

On the other hand, I'm a recent Markbass convert and I'd highly recommend checking out some of their stuff if you decide on something different.
