anyone give me any input, or has anyone ever played it before? i've never owned a squire, only have ever had ibanez. none of the stores in my area carry this bass in stock for me to try.

There's no shortage of love for the Squier VM around these parts. Some people draw a distinction between the older "Duncan Designed" pickups (2012 and earlier) and the newer "Fender Designed" pickups (2013 and on). My experience with the Duncans is limited and the first I ever tried didn't impress me, but that easily could've been because of a crappy/non-existant set-up (a Best Buy floor model…probably the latter). I recently got to try out a 2013 model and it was kickin' quite nicely…strong output, plenty of "growl" without being tinny or brittle.

I should mention there's a used Standard (Mexican-made) lefty Jazz on their used database for a few bucks more than the VM. It also claims to come with a bag, which should be factored into your total cost, as should the $25 shipping cost.
