Double Bass Looking for a qualified luthier in Bucks, PA

I get it and I appreciate all of your responses. As I said, I'm new to DB and that's why I posted this message.

Well, it looks like the top is going to have to come off in order to make the repairs. I'm not sure if it's going to be worth the investment. I'm told in the neighborhood of $1000. I've got $950 invested in it already, and I doubt it will be worth $2k when it's repaired. The question now is, what do I do with it? It's otherwise decent shape, and even with the bass bar problem, it sounds pretty sweet. It'd be a shame to "total" it.



Jake does this bass qualify as "real"?

Its not that I'm biased because I repair things, its that my natural inclination is to repair things. That said, I'd repair it properly and play it for a long time. IMHO, YMMV

LOL...I had to look up YMMV...

I've spoken with the luthier and I've decided to spend the money and get it done right. I don't plan on selling it anytime soon, and it seems like an otherwise great old instrument. I am partial to old things with high mileage, especially instruments and if I put it up for sale, I'd just take a beating on it unless I found a sucker (like me). So, for karma's sake, I'll bite the bullet, fix her and keep her.

Well, it's been a long two months, but the old Kay is back on the road with a new bass bar, bridge and setup, courtesy of Sarah and Bil at the Guitar Parlor. It plays and sounds fantastic.
