Looking for a Ric copy

I played one of these in a store not to long ago and was impressed. I have a 4003 and wanted a back up that sounded and felt similar....this would have been it but I came across a USA Made Gibson Explorer that I could not walk away from.

Thank you all for your input. Rick4001s, have you successfully ordered one of the Chinese fakers? I hear all sorts of stories about them sending nothing (or some completely urelated and worthless items) and then never responding to follow-up messages? And does anyone know a reliable source for used guitars (i.e. Giannini) out of Brazil? Thanks again all!

USA company Bass made in Korea

That website says "USA" everywhere but it is obviously for promotional purposes only. They may be based in the US, but they clearly make nothing here (like so many others) and I've never seen so much blatant apostrophe abuse.

In my view, buying an old Ric copy from the 60s or 70s is one thing, but buying one of those newer models is messed up. I guess its okay if you live outside the US where its harder and way more expensive to get the real thing, but having a new one imported feeds the crooks. IMO.

Schecter Stargazer = OK. Not really a direct copy.
Univox, Ibanez, Greco = OK. I think they quit making em a long time ago. And they are built well.
Tradetang Brands = Shameful. :spit:

To each their own. Just MY .02.

Maybe they can send this stateside. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] They play and sound great for the price.

I played one of these when testing around for a new amp.
It played awefull and sounded even worse IMO and would certainly not be worth the price.
Just my experience though, could have just hade a bad one to because I have read more positive things about this one.

Hi.

I'm looking for a Ric 4001/4003 copy - not one of the current Chinese lookalikes, but an older Japanese, Korean or Brazilian Giannini model. Must be neck-thru, but no need to be stereo. I'm in Los Angeles. Any leads or pointers? Cheers!

Unless You find a trashed one like I did back in the day (Herby with a missing headstock), prepare to either pay as much as You would for a beaten up Ric, or to wait for a looooong time.

Not that many NT's were made, and only a fraction of those have survived. Most would be 30+ years old today after all.
That's a long time to be dodging the Rickenbacker police ;).

On top of that, not many people are willing to part with theirs.
At least not with pocket change.
IMO those basses are an exellent value for money.

Best of luck in Your hunt.

Regards
Sam

Maybe they just had a bad set-up on the one you tried Jerry. I tried one at session Music in Frankfurt and it played and sounded better than I expected. If it came in 5 string, I might have pulled the trigger on one. Great bang for the €.
