Looking for advice on new bass

hey everyone, i am looking for a new bass with active pickups. i need it to be able to effectively play anything from metal to funk and soft stuff as well as everything in between. i was looking for probably an ibanez. my price range is roughly 300 dollars and less. i was looking at this one specifically so far: Ibanez Gio GSR200FM. or maybe this one
any suggestions, comments, or whatever?

I have two Ibanezs and an SX Pbass and the Ibanezs are way better quality and sound IMHO. The Ibanez don't look or feel like a Fender like the SXs do, but if that doesn't bother you I say go for an Ibanez.

Here are some examples of my SX 75' Jazz Bass. I was just messin' around, i'm sorry for the bad playing. First you can hear just the Bridge Pickup full volume, then the Neck Pickup soloed, then both pickups full volume. Then the Slap with both pickups full volume. Mine is an Ash Body Maple fingerboard SX Jazz Bass with block inlays...

recorded directly into my macbook pro, i didn't use any pre-amp or audio interface. It sounds very nice, i've been playing with it the last couple months on pro gigs, and i've got very nice comments on my sound.
I just got an Aguilar Tonehammer and it works great!

Maybe you could buy an SX Jazz Bass and an Aguilar Tonehammer Pre for a little more than $300... and that's way better than a entry level Ibanez IMHO.

This is the SX on a "rehearsal recording" with one of my bands, again directly into a mbox 2, no amp

Another good thing about the SX is the cool look of the bass!

i had an ibanez gsr200, it was my first bass.
once i figured out active pickups werent my thing i sold it.
plus the truss rod didnt work properly. :/
which i hear was common in those.

other than that it was a solid bass.

having owned that and 2 SXs at the moment.
id buy an SX IMO.

good bass with an inexpensive pricetag.
you could buy a bass and put what you save into a good amp or upgrades.

or
used is a good way to go, if you know what to look for in a used bass.
a local luithier could help with a good setup and to ensure everything works.

+1 to SX

alright, thanks for all the input gang. ill have to look into all those basses, but as of now i think my plan is to try out the sr300 at my local music store today, and then if i like it, ill probably shoot for that and then, based on what ive read online, swap out the pickups for some basslines or something like that once i can.
