Looking for Combo Similar to MB115

I say similar because my MB115 seems to have died on me (upon researching it, this isn't totally uncommon) and I may need to replace my amp quickly.

Aside from the sound, I loved the fact that it's portable and could be used for anything from practicing in an apartment to playing a small gig. I've never pushed this amp anywhere near it's limits (never gigged or practiced it with a band once) so I'm a bit concerned that it may be a manufacturer's issue and not something I did to it.

Hmm, bummer - maybe checkout some Ampeg combo amps - they don't sound like G-K but they do sound great.

Warranties are there in case of infant mortality (that's in HOURS of use, not sitting around unused). If they get infrequent use those unforeseen component failures from suppliers can't be found during that time period. The possible problem with components SUPPLIED to them is why the warranty is there. It's a drag it happened to you but your attitude will have more effect on your getting out of warranty help. And with the attitude you are displaying good luck with your next brand is how I would see it. ;)

Bummer your MB 115 went south. Given the number they sell it seems to be a pretty rare event. I've had great experience with GK customer service the few times I've needed them. Try giving them a call. Maybe Jason can help you get back up and running.

Hopefully, they can help. It can't be that rare, considering when I google "MB115", it tries to autocomplete wth "pink light". I really like the sound of this amp, and if the MKIIs don't have the same issue, I'd maybe consider getting one. Also checking out the TC BG250-115 but I like the sounds of the GK better.

I've been really happy with my Carvin MB10, and I bet paired with the 15" extension cabinet, it would be even better. They also have a straight-up MB15 if you want it all in one package.

Out of the millions they sell worldwide, and now that G-K is in Stockton, CA USA - its really rare!!!

FWIW: Honesty, if I read this thread (and your other thread bumping comments about it in other threads) and I was a G-K employee in a position to help you with your out of warranty problem, I wouldn't go out of my way - just saying.

Anyway, good luck with your next brand.

I'm not on here slandering GK. I'm trying to find an amp similar to the GK model that I like very much, in case my current amp can't be fixed. My bump in the other thread was there to share my experience with people who had similar problems and get some info on how I might be able to facilitate the repair of my amp. If I can't get it repaired, I'm on a time crunch to find another one ASAP. Sensitive, are we?

Any KNOWN manufacturing defect should be covered regardless IMO. You could buy a defective amp the day before your band breaks up, therefore not knowing there's a defect until later. A defect is a defect. GK should own up.

It will be hard to replace the sound from G-K with a different brand. The tone section was developed by Robert A Gallien when he was in college in California (Gallien still owns and runs G-K). I can't help with a different brand name for a like sound. I can help with an email contact [email protected] if RAG who is on TB has not already read your posts and taken offense.

Original post edited to remove my initial frustrations. I had to cancel an audition, and was a bit caught off guard when I found many similar complaints. Fingers crossed that this will be worked out. I compared the TC BG250-115 and MB115-II side by side today, and the GK just sounded so much sweeter.

One of the reasons (I personally believe) that RAG moved all production out of his China plant was getting any product updates implemented. Don't know if that applies to your unit but control is much tighter when everyone is in the same factory. :) Good luck if Jason can do anything (even if healthy discount on cost) he will.
