Hi everyone. I bought my first ever bass from a used Japanese goods store. I paid $135 for it. Can anybody tell me about my bass? I've attached pictures. Thanks in advance.

Fernandes has a reasonably good quality rep in the mid price range. Your bass is likely worth what you paid. Looks in new condition?

It appears to be a Fernandes FRB-50M. Released 3 years back MSRP is 50000 yen or $350 USD, got yourself quite a bargain.

It's quite practically mint, yea. There appear to be some finish defects like white specking in the space between the pickups and an impression in the wood on the back, but under the paint. Apart from the paint chip on the headstock which can be seen in my first pic, it appears like it just came from the factory.
Thanks, i'll post my question there too. Even the control cavity cover on the back has the plastic still on. The bass was in-tune from the store! And intonation is only a tiny bit off.
I checked out the page. The specs seem a bit different don't you think? Probably mine's a different year-model?
At a glance, that bass screams early-to-mid-‘90s (and there’s not a thing wrong with that, at least in my book). Real MIJ Gotoh tuning machines and everything. I think you made out like a bandit here. Enjoy
I can’t make out the stamp on the neck plate. Does it say “Made in Japan” anywhere other than the tuning machines?

It just says Fernandes. I can't find any serial or any other identifying detail.
Yup my thoughts, too, because of the finish issues. Strings seem new, too, so it probably wasn't a demo unit (which would end up practically sold as used, anyway).
Yeah, I'd go with you got a really good bass for really little money.

front pickup produces a thick sound with a sense of weight, while the rear pickup produces a tight sound with a strong core. The pitch is narrow at 17mm, so you can play without any discomfort even when you switch from a guitar.
The tension guide on the head gives the strings just the right amount of tension and eliminates the chatter that often occurs with basses.

Fernandes makes a decent bass ( I own one in my stable)......like many Schecters, Fernandes are usually decent quality basses well worth the price you pay for them
