Looking for my first bass rig setup

Hey guys I'm new to the forum and am struggling to find a rig setup that is right for me. My only current piece of equipment is an Eden NSP 115 cab rated at 250watts at 8 ohms I'm pretty sure. The sticker says 4 ohms but I researched and found out it is actually 8 ohms.

Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated!

And btw, I'm currently leaning towards purchasing either a Nemesis Eden NA650 amp along with a 210 cab or the Markbass CMD 102p combo.

Again I'm new to the forum and recently got in a band that plays small to medium sized venues. We play mostly 90s Alternative covers. Any advice and information you can lend me would be awesome!

What amp are you using now with the 115 cab?

BTW, you’re probably going to get a lot of different recommendations from everyone and in the end need to test drive a few amps for yourself to determine what YOU like best.

Thanks! I'm actually currently just using my friends rig because we play almost all of our gigs together, and I bought the 115 by itself to use for my schools jazz band. I used a Hartke ld500 that belonged to the school when I played in the jazz band, but I'm not a huge fan of the tone. So I'm basically stuck with just a 115 cab at the moment haha.

The Markbass may suit your tastes better as would the Ampeg PF350 or PF-500, G-K MB-200 for new market at a savings over the MarkBass. New Eden stuff for myself personally meh.
Used equipment "The world is your oyster" as it were.

I’m guessing you don’t like the Eden NSP 115 cab either?

I've heard good things about Markbass and stumbled upon the CMD 102p and it is basically exactly what I need, but I don't want to overwork the amp by plugging in my 250 watt cab, if that is what will happen. The amp is 500 watts and 300 of that goes to the cab that it is combined with in the combo, so I don't know how it will work.

I've played through an NA650 and its not a bad amp. But Eden just doesn't have the best reputation at this point. They used to be top notch..........not saying they're bad, just not the latest and greatest out right now.

I'd start from scratch if you're really going to be gigging a lot. You MUST check out the micro heads like the Genz Benz shuttle series etc., and neo-cabs that are light and sound great......perfect for what you'll do. A 2x10 will probably work pretty well, but check out the new 2X12's......a lot of them are under 50 lbs. and kick butt.

Have fun. There's a lot of stuff out there to look at.

Amps will only be "over-worked" by exceeding the load in ohms. If your cab is 8 ohms and the combo will take an 8 ohm extension the total load on the amp will be 4 ohms. The combo should have no trouble with that and have enough output power to damage the cab if you decide to crank the volume and bass controls too high.

My dislike of the Hartke amp may have been due to the way it sounded with an upright bass plugged into it. It sounds irrelevant but that is what I kind of judged the amp on. It was probably the upright itself, but that is not really a concern anymore. But to get back on topic my budget is basically under $1000. Maybe a little over if I find something I really want.

You’re not thinking of using a CMD 102p combo with of your Eden NSP 115 cab are you?

That's the whole point kind of. Why is that a bad idea?

Thanks for the input. I've seen and held the Genz Benz amps and must say they are light! I may have to try one out soon.

Well the reason I bring up the Markbass combo is that I found one used for $679 and figured it was a superb deal. I'm going to research the GK right now tho!
