Looking for my old bass

I'm seeing something totally different - the ape scene at the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey, with one of them banging a FrankenFender from the 70s.

Nah, I distinctly remember the obelisk being black with a white pickguard.

I think I'm sophisticated
'Cause I'm living my life like a good homosapien
But all around me, everybody's multiplying
And they're walking round like flies man

So I'm no better than the animals sitting in their cages
In the zoo man
Because compared to the flowers and the birds and the trees
I am an Apeman

I think I'm so educated and I'm so civilized
'Cause I'm a strict vegetarian
But with the over-population and inflation and starvation
And the crazy politicians

I don't feel safe in this world no more
I don't want to die in a nuclear war
I want to sail away to a distant shore
And make like an Apeman

I'm an Apeman, I'm an Ape Apeman
No, I'm an Apeman
Well, I'm a King Kong man, I'm a Voo-Doo man
No, I'm an Apeman

'Cause compared to the sun that sits in the sky
Compared to the clouds as they roll by
Compared to the bugs and the spiders and flies
I am an Apeman

I'm an Apeman, I'm an Ape Apeman
No, I'm an Apeman
Well, I'm a King Kong man, I'm a Voo-Doo man
No, I'm an Apeman

I don't want to die in a nuclear war
I want to sail away to a distant shore

:D

Please, be more accurate with your statements.
It will remain, passed down generation to generation, viewed only via photograph by each subsequent inheritor until the sun expands to a red giant and turns it to ash.

;)

In about 5 to 6 billion years, the Sun will have depleted the hydrogen fuel in its core and will begin to expand. At its largest, its surface will approximately reach the current orbit of the Earth. It will then lose its atmosphere completely; its outer layers forming a planetary nebula and the core a white dwarf. The evolution of the Sun into and through the red-giant phase has been extensively modelled, but it remains unclear whether the Earth will be engulfed by the Sun or will continue in orbit. The uncertainty arises in part because as the Sun burns hydrogen, it loses mass causing the Earth (and all planets) to orbit farther away. There are also significant uncertainties in calculating the orbits of the planets over the next 5 – 6.5 billion years, so the fate of the Earth is not well understood. At its brightest, the red-giant Sun will be several thousand times more luminous than today but its surface will be at about half the temperature.

Perhaps we should concentrate on the greater threat of evolution producing giant sentient cockroaches who only want to tap on their basses.

So this is an Amber Alert? ;)
Will keep an eye out.

"Keep an eye out" in not nearly proactive enough of a stance considering the urgency.
I'm gonna go drive around and look for this bass, which has had ample time to find its way to the west coast.
Hopefully some other TBers can cover the eastern seaboard. Let's do this.

the interwebs are particularly good for finding needles in haystacks

I wasn't even looking for my P - just browsing eBay for basses (as one does) and I only noticed a nick on the neck I had put there many years past right at the 9th fret and the cigarette burns in the headstock - serious Mojo

the giveaway was that it was in the small home town of the guy I had sold it to but across the state

Oooh! What's that in your avatar? I wants one! :D

And owned by one of those strange bass players who buys one bass and never thinks about buying another.

There are no "normal" bass players. (Or anyone else, for that matter - "normal" is a myth! We all crazy! Don't trust anyone who pretends they ain't!)
