Looking at an amp to run our mains and was wondering if anyone has any experience running the CE 1000. It's got the power I'm looking for, so my question comes down to reliability. Any good?

Looking for opinions: Crown CE1000

I would suggest trying to find the more reliable USA series amps from QSC. The CE series was less than dependable and possibly Crown's weakest moment. Want dependable, try an old Peavey CS-800....they can double as jack stands. Sound mushy in the low end, but they rarely die. In cheap power amps that sound good and last long, you have to go with QSC. The newer GX-series by QSC are amazing fr the budget dollars. But do yourself a favor and pass on that Crown. There are good Crown's, just none that start with CE, CL or CH.
Thanks for the advice! The other amp I was considering is a Peavey CS800X, and I've used Peavey gear for 30+ years, but thought the Crown my be nice to try. Now I know why they are cheap.
Just in case this topic comes up in a search...the CE4000 was a completely different animal and is actually a great amp. Just stay away from the 1000 and 2000. I used a 1000 in my bass rig for a while, never had any probems, but I would not buy used today, as was said, they are cheap for a reason.
I used a ce 1000 for a long time. it never had any issue at all. personally I wouldn't want to carry that much weight with amps like the drive cores and ipr's and carvin's starting around 300 new.
sold off my last qsc plx 2402 last week under 400. plx amps are just industrially strong and reasonable in the weight dept. incredibly solid!

I would go for the peavey over the crown. You could probably find a crown 802 or 602 or a qsc 1450 for$200-250. these are pretty commonly available used and pretty reliable and somewhat similar specs to the CE1000.
Purchased the Peavey for $180. At least I know that it will survive just about anything I can do to it.

the ce1000/2000 was a "disposable" amp, not really fixable.
the 4000 was apparently entirely different.
Given the price of new technology hitting the market and bench fees of $60 and upwards, I'd be hard-pressed to spend any more than $200 on an older power amp. Granted, a few, like the Crest CA series, still retain a respectable resale value.
