Looking for Overdrive - a special one.

I second on the Fairfield Barbershop. One of "cleanest" overdrive that I've owned. Everything just feels so natural coming out of that pedal.

My other choice would be Barefoot Queen Beest (latest Blueberry variant from them). Not as "clean" in my opinion as Barbershop but adds a nice low mid girth that helps in cutting through the mix.

I like the Jackson Audio Broken Arrow. I used it on my guitar pedal board and accidentally tried it out with my bass. It was super quiet and went from nice barely on dirt to full on prog metal driving madness.

Okay my two cents, any overdrive on the helix, run the dirt box on a separate chain looping back to the main signal with a frequency crossover ahead of the distortion. It's a great way to ensure the lows stay clean and only the higher frequencies are distorted.

Since you’re in Europe, find a Nobels ODR-1 and give that a whirl.

It’s a favorite of Nashville session players for its ability to fatten-up their Telecasters; other guitarists say it has “too much low end”.

“Too much low end” is practically a mating call for bassists, so I had to try one on bass, and it’s been my favorite OD for about 6 years now.

Very meaty, very touch-sensitive, sounds like an amp, goes from clean boost to Marshall stack…but stops before getting into RAT or fuzz territory.

To the OP: Just so you know, any one past the 4th reply is likely just telling you their favorite overdrive pedal, regardless of how much description you type about what you want. Especially those who's entire response is "name of pedal" without any further explanation.

But just in case you're listing to my input, the Genzler 4 on the floor is very capable of doing the "just a hint of drive" thing rather well.

Well, yes. I know that. But I like to look at all the pedals and see if anything clicks.
You see, I'd probably be fine with a Boss ODB-X. But I'd much rather have a boutique, handmade one.

The Darkglass Vintage Mictotubes is designed to do exactly that......hell. even my Darkglass B7K will do it: its just not known for that because of all the djent weenies that gave it the reputation as an xtreem box, but its quite capable of subtle grit similar to natural speaker breakup

Subtle OD with distortion capabilities that will modify your tone - check out Blueberry variants. There are a ton, but my faves are the Bearfoot Queen Bee and the OneControl Blackberry.

OD that will not color your tone - Fairfield Barbershop. No tone modification tho, so doesn't fit your criteria.

Nice, dirty, touch sensitive OD and Distortion - Grizzly or Holy Fire. Both of these can really sizzle.

Great OD/dist with clean blend? Lucy Dreamer and the MXR M85. For tube with clean blend, the Crazy Tubes Locomotive.

I have a Free the Tone Bass Blaster on the way, just got word that it shipped. It's supposed to be the bees knees.

The Bearfoot Uber Bee would be my very first suggestion. Second would be the Queen Bee which is voiced slightly lower and may be more your flavor. They're both absolutely brilliant at doing what you want. My third suggestion would be literally almost anything other than Darkglass.
