Looking for something a little unique.

My bass of choice is a Gibson RD, sounds brilliant, plays perfect for me and looks a bit different from the crowd without being all pointy. I love it.
I've never played a ric before, but a few people say the Magnum can get pretty close to it's sound. You can tell the Magnum is inspired by the Ric by the pickup placement, high mass bridge, and the stereo jack. The Magnum still has it's own sound though. The pickup design and bridge are pretty unique.
This site claims to have one in stock - MF says "no longer available" so either they have a holdover or they haven't updated their website. Folk over on the DB side may know more than we do over here on BG. To find one PHYSICALLY to try out -- who knows? Ask your local stores, I have no idea what they do or don't carry.

Just along the lines of places to look for other more aesthetically unusual bass guitars, you might check out the retro stuff at Eastwood Guitars. Another brand that comes to mind is Reverend - very funky-looking and not unreasonably priced. I've never played one but they have their fans here. You might also check out Carvin, you can customize on their basic patterns. They're not crazy-wild looking, but they're not just your usual Fender clones either.
Thanks for the link, that's actually where I found them online too. I called a local music store and they said they have some Rick's I can check out and they may have a Triumph Lite, otherwise if I want one they can order one for me so i don't ave to deal with any online retailers or anything of the sort. Will be doing that tomorrow, so hopefully I can find some other nice things to look at and see where things go from there. I also have a small list of other places I can call and look into.
I also really dig that Eastwood bass. i loved the look of the Ampeg that someone suggested eaelier, it was just more than I could afford to spend right now. That has a great look to it though. Will have to check them out.

I have been wanting to try that out in my 80's Crossover/thrash band. It has a killer sound, and definitely a different look for metal...

The shop at which I work had a NOS Ovation Magnum II, awesome for lots of styles except prog. Excellent bass though, went to a loving home in ohio for $1500, but it was totally mint with the typed registration card. The Magnum I, though... With stereo outs and a way sicker silhouette, prog as hell. An actually used one should go for 900-1200.
Eastwoods also have a magnum. Problem with Eastwood is that they only copy the look. The Eastwood Magnum is pretty much a jazz bass with a magnum style shape. Same with the ampeg copy. It doesn't even have the scroll head that makes it so sexy. I wish I could afford a real ampeg bass.

I am trying to plan out a tiered buying list based on price and how much i really like the look of that particular bass. I have seen some of the cheaper ones that I actually really dig and of course i have seen the more pricey ones that i would love to own. At the same time, it's not really been about finding the most expensive thing I can afford, but rather what do i like the most and cost has become secondary. Not to say that i can just spend thousands all willy nilly, but I am definitely not counting out the cheaper ones I have seen thus far.
Keeping my eye on a few basses and even got a couple PM's about some good deals in the classifieds. Hopefully with my possibly trip out today I will have a better understanding of what I am looking for and what I really need.

Very classic design.
For a deviation, I also like the new Gibson Midtown.
I'm not crazy about the new Fender reissues of the Coronado and Starcaster but it would certainly be a cheap way to go!
