Looking for that "Punchy" Sound

Hi all, I need some help,

I'm trying to get quite a punchy, clear cut sound from my bass (I like being able to hear all the string picking) and I'm always using the more treble of my pickup (I use a Yamaha BB414 and Rockinbetter RG4003)

I'd ideally like it to sound similar to Pat Badger from Extreme
Invalid Link Removed (6:09 in for example)

I know I can't really replicate it exactly but what can I do to my eq on my amp to get it closer to that I have a Carlsbro 150W stingray head

Cheers
Jamie
He does have an awesome tone. Plus he is a heck of a player.

I recently switched preamps and started using the Avalon u5.i honestly had no idea that level of clarity was possible. I can hear the tiniest details.

I had a carlsbro stingray head 40 years ago! I don't think it was a particularly good amp back then and you could do so much better for not much money nowadays. However a good tone is not achieved by replacing strings, guitar, cables, amp or speakers in isolation; and your playing technique is crucial. A cheapo behringer BDI 21 pedal is a fantastic entry to Sansamp type sound shaping; putting one in front of the stingray might liven up what I remember as being a very lacklustre head. I wouldn't go spending a fortune on speakers until you are happier with your tone. A good speaker will simply allow you to play your sound louder hopefully without loads of coloration.
