so I’m relatively new to playing bass. I have amassed a small collection of them, two fenders with 9.5” radii and a few others with 12”. I find the flatter boards more comfortable for me but I’ve been reading some people even prefer the 7.25” radius on vintage fenders. Any particular reason or is it just personal preference?

Double Bass Looking to be enlightened on fretboard radius preference

mine are all 9.5 radius or thereabouts. i'm used to them so no complaints, but: i'd like a 7.25 fb radius for the 'comfort' = the smaller radius is preferred by many in order to take advantage of the 'natural curl' of our fingers... when playing.

I tend to like the feel of the 7.25" vintage radius fingerboards. I tend to build FrankenFender Precision basses with Fender vintage reissue necks (mostly MIJ) and Warmoth bodies, because I like the colors I can get from Warmoth.
I did play a Highway One Precision that had a flatter, more modern radius, and got along fine with that for a couple of years. So, it's probably all in my head at this point. (Although all of my current Fender basses have 7.25" radius necks.)
