looking to make a 5-string jump

I got a new Warwick $$ 5 for just over 1000 at GC. I suspect you could find one used in your range easily. That sure nails your requirement of "customizable sound".

Good luck with the 5 strings. Nice to practice a Circle of Fourths and have two groups of three scales straight across the same fret.

If you're looking new,I think Carvin puts out a 5er for about that range. That way you can pick out your custumizing.

now if there were only a better way to narrow the classifieds to show 5 strings nothing more irritating than having to sift through everyones 4 bangers when you only want 5ers

The Spector Euro 5LX, Spector ReBop 5, and the MIA Fender Jazz 5 are the first that come to mind. I believe that there's at least one of each for sale in the classifieds. The ReBop has gotten some extensive upgrades and seems like a great deal but you can't go wrong with any of these.

My 2 Warwick LX5s were 900 and 1000, great 5 string basses and neither would I consider cheap.
