My Father had an Edsiel and it was basically held together with duct tape and any Band I ever played with someone had a roll at gigs or rehearsal

Apparently my cable was non-Neutrik, although it had given me little trouble for years, but yesterday, the cabinet stopped passing sound. Anyone got a reliable line on new Neutrik cables that don't have the issues I've read about in these past few pages?

I had that exact thing happen. I started checking and learned that my cable had connectors that were not Neutrik. Neutrik speakon connectors have been trouble free except for the brown ones introdeced recently. Stay away from them.

I have bought 6 of these cables. They are reasonably priced and have genuine Neutrik connectors and work perfectly.

The genuine NL4FX are good plugs, haven't heard of any issues with these or the NL4FC

Yes, it's this much of an issue and it's the kind of thing that should scare the poopie out of you because it happens in the medical field, pharmaceuticals, auto parts (including brakes and suspension components, aircraft parts, electrical parts, etc.

In thst video I picked the one on the left as “legit” for two reasons. (1) The exit hole in the rubber tip where the cable exits is a lot larger on the counterfeit. Neutriks have always been small and very tight. (2) The shiny appearance of the ”counterfeit” one and an overall darker color of the screw-on boot.

Since this is a work in progress by the counterfeiters, they could end up being identical.
That’s scary especially when you think about medical devices.

Nuetrik can’t get even get their own brown connectors to work properly. That’s more scary to me. Might be funny if the counterfeit versions get their versions fixed before the OEM.

Ya and I don’t want my Nuetriks failing either never had the misfortune of the knock off version of those,seems as though they can be quite troublesome.

Yea at least for now the knock offs all seem to have too shiny of paint finish and the boot does not feel the same. I would like to see what the solder cups look like on those knock off and the a closer look at the internal contacts.
For what it's worth you can get Neutrik XLR boots with larger diameter holes in the boot.

I believe all the Neutrik Speakon connectors use screws to clamp the wires and that even tinning the wires is not recommended.

There is a very uncommon solder cup type SpeakOn, they are difficult to work with (even for me) outside of a factory production environment.

Without a legit product to directly compare it to, knock offs with the manufacturer's markings are "legit" to most buyers.

From what I understand you should be fine with Mesa amps because they don’t use the combination SpeakOn / 1/4” connectors. They’re only used in their cabinets. If you have Mesa cabs I would shy away from using the brown connectors with those.

I have two Subway 15's. I hear ya but it's all I have, sucks because I just bought these cables and they weren't cheap haha I'll get some new (old) ones soon.

The brown connectors loose contact sometimes if they are locked in the cab but twisted counter clockwise. I also had that happen with a knockoff connector.
