Loose IEMs...

Hey guys. This is maybe a little goofy, but I figured I’d post on the off chance that there is an answer out there… My IEM molds are fitting loose and are not sealing up that well anymore. What I need to do is get a new impression and have them remolded, and I’ll likely do that soon before things get busy in the Spring/Summer...

BUT, in the mean time, does anyone have any good tricks for a way to improve the seal? I’ve been wondering if there are any hearing aid products or something along those lines that might be able to help me out.

I suppose if it can sit in your mouth...it could sit in your ear....but I'd hate to dig it out if it left any debris behind. But I've read alot of MN's posts and he usually speaks from ...experience. So....maybe he'd give you a little background on his experience.

Bummer to need to get them remolded! Not a cheap venture.

I just got the UE Triple Fi 10's with the foam and they have stayed in fine, I use a collar clip to keep them from flying ever. And with the triple drivers and the detachable cable they are a bargain as a back up set if you want something in the meantime. I picked up a pair from an "E" retailer for $133 shipped, open box but with factory warranty. I'll now use my stock AT EP3 buds with an aftermarket triple flange tip as a back-up. The AT's were actually a nice set for a single driver cheapie, but they're crud compared to the punch of the TF10's.

An alternative to dental adhesive perhaps.

Well, I tried it. It may work, but it was pretty gooey, and I am kind of afraid of it sticking around in my ear canal afterward. Cost me $2 at Walmart to try it, and my right ear is minty fresh now, so no harm in trying!!

And I believe it is only $50/ear to remold with the innards that I already bought. Totally worth doing, but I've just been putting it off since I only really use them with a band a few times a year and when I fill in at a couple friends' church services.

You're a brave soul Dan! I still don't know that I would do the dental paste. Since you only use them a few times a year I understand waiting on the re-mold. I use them every week or two and would go nuts with gooping up my ear. I figure I'll need to get use to using that stuff in the traditional fashion too soon enough in life anyway......

I found a solution!! Out of shear desperation this morning, I discovered that if I wrap 1/2 a piece of toilet tissue around the mold and then shove it in, it works great!! It adds just enough mass to keep it in tight.

I still plan to get new impressions and have them remolded, but at least this works in the mean time. :^)
