losing weight

Nice thread resurrection!!

Reading through the comments, made me think back to the past 8 years. I'm about 5'10 and have been as light as 155lb and as heavy as 230...which, unfortunately is around about what I weigh now :(
Must get back into some kind of workout routine, that's how I got as thin as I was and it was without changing my diet. My weight has fluctuated over the years depending on how active I am. I dropped down to 155 from alot of gamefishing over the summer months and two night's a week of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. When the gamefishing stopped, I went up to around 175. Oh well, those were the days!!

I want to get back down to about 175-180 again, although having the extra weight does help at work for dealing with unruly patrons (I run a pub in the heart of Melbourne).

Found a diet that works. No sugar, very little starch, plenty of meat, fish, and eggs and lots of veggies. Very similar to paleo, but not fanatical about it.

Found an exercise plan I like. Convict Conditioning.

It's just variations of pushups, pullups, squats and leg raises at the start. Adds bridges and handstand pushups later. Lots of variation in the program, from extremely easy to extremely difficult. It is truly suitable for just about anybody, from athletes to seniors. No equipment needed, no big investment of time. I'm hoping to be in pretty decent shape by New Years, and ready to rock 'n roll by spring.

This isnt necessarily a diet but it has been working for me for a while now. Invalid Link Removed

Its more like a meal timing thing, its Intermittent Fasting. Basically the idea is to break your day into 'fast' and feed' windows. As long as you hit your macros you will see fat melt off. In short, eat all of the food you plan on eat for that day between noon and 8pm (8hr feed window) and the other 16hours you can't ingest any calories that would break your fast (the fast window).

The website explains why this works, and trust me IT DOES.

Don't let the word 'fasting' scare you, millions of people participate in Ramadan every year which prevents them from eating while the sun is out (in August/sept) and they all survive.

Try it for a week or two along with any workout routine, or whatever and you'll see results.

I do a kind of pseudo-paleo... It's kind of like the last phase of atkins throughout the week and then I eat whatever I damn well please on the weekend. It works... Like 15lb in the 1st 30 days works... I don't have to think about it much, it works whether I excersize or not and I don't have to be die hard about it, which means it's something I'll stick with for the long haul.... I mean hell two days a week I can do whatever I want.... Sticking with a diet is the hard part... Develop something you'll stick to and don't worry about being perfect... It's really not rocket science and life really shouldn't focus around how many calories this or that is.

My suggestion... If someone tells you "you need to do it this way.." or "the only way to..." or "you're wrong" they're usually full of crap and have no business giving anyone advice... Don't listen to them. Find out what works for you that you can stick to easily... That's really all that's important here.

Exercise and healthy diet is very important in loosing weight. you cannot out weigh bad diet with exercise!

Eat a lot of fruits, vegetables and foods that are high in protein.
and drink water! try drinking lemon water too as this helps you detoxify your body.

Try training up and running a long race, a very long race. I wasn't trying to lose weight, but I trained and ran a few half marathons withing the past couple years and it's kept me fit as can be (14, 5'10, 141lbs). I'm not saying run a half, but build yourself up to the point where you can run for over an hour. I never battled weight, but my mom did and with running she dropped quite a bit, it worked wonders for her.

Hey everyone, I've been wanting to ask some of you this; however, since this thread got bumped, I may as well ask it here.

I've always had a very fast metabolism. Throughout my teens and most of my 20s, I was very thin, so much that I had a very angular face. Recently, within the past two and a half or so years, my metabolism has finally slowed down, as everyone predicted it would (my dad was very thin in his teens and 20s too, and then he finally filled out).

It's great that I finally put on some weight, and I get compliments from everyone who knew me back then that I look good with more mass. However, there's one small problem. Since I've gained weight, I've gained a bit around my stomach. I'd like to get trimmed down there and get some abdominal definition.

The problem, however, is that I know that you can't necessarily do targeted fat loss. I don't want to really want to become thinner in the face, for instance. I primarily just want to slim my lower torso and build definition. I've been doing some upper body training for my chest. However, with my tummy region, doing a million sit-ups isn't going to necessarily give me the results I'm looking for.

Should my approach be some low impact weight loss exercise and dieting with strength training? Could anyone steer me in the right direction?

What you're after isnt possible. Your body will store fat how it sees fit. You can't do anything about it.

You can put some muscle on and that will help you look bulkier all around, and in a healthy manner.

^ this.

Don't worry so much about doing millions of situps. Try and get into an all round/full body workout routine, you should be able to have a fairly defined mid section from about 10% BF and lower.

The gym thread is full of really good advice, though I certainly need to start taking on some of the advice in this thread too...

The midsection area is the last place most men lose far from, so that means you are going to have to burn off pretty much all the other fat from your arms and legs first before you body starts burning it from there.
It's the worst, I know. That's just life, so work out right and eat right, maybe try to limit any water weight to look leaner faster.
