Lost my wallet

I spent the night out with friends and took a cab back home.

Here I am at my apartment without my wallet. I checked everywhere in here and from the driveway to the apartment, twice. I remember checking if I had any cash left in my wallet in the cab before paying by debit. My wallet is nowhere to be found. I called the taxi company twice, the first time before checking everywhere, the second after saying it "had" to be in the cab (only place where it could be, unless someone who took the same cab after me took it). They told me to call back around 4 when the cab would be back at their HQ...

This is especially frustrating as I had stuff in there one should not really carry, such as my SSN... (yeah... I know...)

What's the normal procedure when something like that happens? I guess I have to call to replace my driving license, credit card, student card, medical insurance card, hospital card... What should be done about my SSN card?

Basically the only card I have left is my debit card as I put it in my front pocket before exiting the cab.

****.

The social security card is the problem. The rest you know what to do: Call and cancel and make sure that no charges have been made by another party.

The social security card is going to be a pain in the ass. There are Social Security Administration offices out there. Find the closest one to you and go there Tuesday if you have a passport. If you don't have a passport, this is gonna suck... You need proof of ID and citizenship to get your SS card.

I'm going over it all in my head: what you need to get the next thing to get the next thing to get the etc etc, and I don't know how you could go into the DMV to get an ID. Do you have your birth certificate? That might be enough to get a license, which would get the ball rolling.

Sorry that happened man! And on a holiday weekend too... ouch. This post doesn't belong in the drug test thread, does it?

I had a few beers and a scotch but nothing that belongs in the drugs thread.

I'm going to call back the taxi company as it's past 4, fingers crossed.

I do have a passport and I know all my numbers by heart (SSN, medical insurance, etc.)... Hopefully that'll help.

Let's see how this pans out.

edit: no luck...

Cancelled my credit card. Can't do anything else before Monday.

Sorry to hear about your loss. One thing, though: if you are Canadian, you don't have a social security number, you have a SIN number - social insurance (unless Quebec has its own provisions, which is entirely possible).

You can pick up a form to replace your SIN card at any gov't employment centre.

Good luck.

Yup, my bad. I have a few places to go/call Monday to fix all this. SIN, driver's license and student card... And the store to buy a wallet I guess :atoz:

I'll probably get a credit report in a week to check if anything fraudulent went on depending what I get told upon replacing my card tomorrow.

I know people who walk around carrying virtually every piece of ID and every credit and debit card they own. I've never liked the idea of putting yourself in a position to lose it all in one shot.

When I go out, all I normally take is my driver's license, a credit card, and a debit card...and I keep them in a front pocket where they are safe and secure.

Did you have any wine gums in your wallet? That would be tragic if you lost some of those.

-Mike

Thank God I did not! I think the last time I had winegums was when I made the thread "Hey Mike". At least I still have my debit card if I feel like buying some, because as you know, they sell them everywhere over here.

Not fair! I'm out and it's a three hour drive to get the good ones, Maynards. Me and my first world problems. Sorry to hear about your missing wallet though. That's a bummer.

-Mike

My wallet is kind of a first world problem too! haha

The next time I'm at my parents' place (probably in late March) if you still need your fix and have no trips planned I could mail some to you.

I lost my wallet once. It was inside the mechanism of the reclining couch in our living room. Found it while digging around to get a kitten out. If you have a reclining couch, check the gears and stuff.

Of course I found my wallet after replacing my license and debit card. Which the amount of cash in the wallet that was lost would have paid for, ironically haha. I was actually more pissed about losing the wallet itself than what was in it (made the wallet by hand in 7th grade and used it ever since).
