I also have the same principle but that did not prevent me from forgetting the zipper unfastened. We are getting used to certain repetitive actions and if for some reason
we deviate from the usual we do robot-like mistakes.
 
Those "robot-like mistakes" happens when the second nature routine aspects of the action overtakes your awareness of actually doing the action. I've been practicing getting rid of those moments as much as possible; mindfullness stuff. It works. It's been years now, since I worried about locking the door or if I forgot to turn off the coffee maker, whatever; while before I've had to turn around or being anxious "did I remember" and so on... Of course, it's not 100% foolproof; but it's worth looking into and practicing. In the times and places we live in now, and how; it's so much about distraction. Mindfullness practice is a good counter balance to this; although it's perhaps beyond the scope of the subject of this thread; I'm throwing it out there anyway. ;)
