lost wallet

I just wonder what are the chances for a citizen to get back his lost wallet in your city in a middle class neighborhood. Money inside the wallet about $100 plus cash card, ID, driving licence, vehicle registration papers and unemployment card. Just happened to me this evening and apart from the money inside my wallet I will also have to pay about $150 to the authorities to reissue all these papers-cards.

Zero. Fortunately when I lose my wallet I always discover it months later in the bottom of my closet.

I'd also be more concerned about identity theft than the lost money, time and hassle you'll have to deal with. An untainted state ID is very valuable.
I was thinking about it but since I reported the loss to the police, they will reissue a new ID so how could they make use of the old one?

It depends on the environment you lose it in.
If you lose it on the street, you can almost certainly forget it!

I lost mine at the local community college, while attending classes.
It was on the instructor's podium the next day, and I thanked him profusely.

I lost it on the street and all this evening I'm in the process of trying to forget it. But I cannot even play a single note with my bass.

I hope so too. Replacing all those cards is the real PITA. I found an iPhone a few weeks ago in a busy store parking lot ... ended up getting a parking ticket while returning it to the carrier store. Still glad I did

Its strange how sometimes things happen. All this happened because I wanted to support a local store and the guy did not have change and had to go to break it etc etc

Depends on who finds it. I live in a neighborhood where you don't have to lock up. Wife has left pocketbook in grocery cart and gotten it back.

When I was kid I found a trail of money leading to a wallet. Several hundred 1970's dollars. Thought about keeping it but told my dad. Owner was very happy to get it back.

If I had found it, you'd already have it back. Money included.

I am completely with @Munjibunga on this one. In fact there are far more decent and honest people than otherwise. They are typically not as vocal so they seem to be in minority. Retrace your steps. Talk to the local authority. Some good soul may have already left it with a policeman.
