Lost

Anyone ever watch Lost? I missed it when it was on tv. I would try catching a random episode here or there, but I could never figure out what the hell was going on.

SOooooooo, for the past 2 months, Ive been watching all the ep on Netflix Instant, and Im almost done. I have to say... Lost was one hell of an awesome show! Anyone else a Lost fanatic? Hater?

And btw- I still don't understand how the Island moving through time causes it to physically disappear. I mean, if the Island itself was a time machine (ie. like the Delorian), then why did Locke and Sawyer, etc. keep running into past inhabitants of the island (ie. 1954, etc.)? Maybe Im over thinking.

I really liked it while I was watching it. When I finished it I didn't feel the need to go back and rewatch. Dunno.

You're thinking too hard about the whole time travel whatever thing. It confuses me too so I just roll with it.

The ending was weak (last episode.). The rest was from brilliant to boring. And they really didn't explain much, maybe 10% of what was going on.

If you like Lost, catch up on Alcatraz, me thinks this is even stronger as it combines Lost style mythos with detective action scenes.

I've heard several people say they loved the show, but hated the ending. I will tell you what oddly enough bothers me... the fact that I can't figure out whether Kate really loves Jack, or really loves Sawyer (I think Ill figure out the time travel question before I figure that one out). I kind of sympahtize with Jack because he is the noble, do-gooder, and Sawyer is the rebellious jerk... but I dunno.... it's a love traingle that makes my brain hurt.

And yes, Id love to check out Alcatraz. Its only the 1st season still right? Ill have to check it out on either Hulu or find a used box set when it comes out. I am a huge (no pun intended) Jorge Garcia fan now!

I feel the same way.

Very entertaining show and a great mystery! But once you know how it ends, it just doesn't seem like it would be as entertaining watcing all the seasons a sencond time.

Yep.. Im on season 6.. and just watching everything unfold for the 1st time is quite fascinating. A rewatch wouldnt hold the same kind of magic. It would be like watching an old Superbowl or something on VHS.

I watched it all at once like you're doing and I felt I was able to keep up with it much better. I even back and re-watched it (omitting an episode here and there) and it did fill in some holes. I've done this with a few other shows and I like just blasting through a season in a week or two, rather than wait 25 weeks.

Over-all, I liked it. I even liked how it did not tell you everything. Yet, I wish there was more to do with the island like how they showed Richard's back story. Like give us more of why the island is. Also would have liked a little more about Jacob and the smoke monster. Not what they are necessarily, but why and how.

I tend to split between wanting to know every little detail, and just accepting things as is, and with this show I was able to do both and be happy with it.

Just started watching Alcatraz. I have hopes for it, but not sold yet.

Quite possibly the best tv show ever. I loved it. Yes, there were flaws and plotholes, yes some questions went unanswered, but these minor gripes pale into insignificance when viewed as part of the whole.

I loved the characters. From really despising Sawyer he ended up being my favourite. I loved how the Locke character panned out. I loved the whole Jacob thing. The time travel sequences were great. The flash forwards/backwards/sideways were great. Desmond was awesome. Hurley was awesome. Alpert was awesome. Kate was....awesome.

I loved the ending. Ok, so the polar bears, Widmore, Miles, Walt and the statue etc, never quite got fully explained, but I don't think that was ever the writers intentions. I loved how the whole thing started and finished with Jack and Vincent.

It ultimately felt like an epic tale of hope, despair and above all, love.

I plan to give Alcatraz a go when it starts here in the uk in March. However, I don't think we'll see the likes of Lost again.

And to the OP- yep, plenty of haters, but so what? Enjoy it for what it is/was...a damn good tv show. :)

Favourite line? "We have to go back, Kate". Man, I NEVER saw that coming. Knocked me for six.

I agree with a few thoughts:

a) loved it when I started watching it. Plot twists and cliffhanger endings were great, as was the mythos included.

b) ultimately I think they bit off more than they could chew in terms of narrative and integrating all of those twists coherently. The ending disappointed me because the show was filled with twists that you didn't see coming and the ending, well, didn't live up to the closure or brilliance.

c) like others have noted I think the replay value is limited. I loved watching the first time but haven't rewatched a single episode since the finale. The value was in the surprise and the confusion, which is where I felt the show's greatest strength was.

Interesting about not rewatching it. That's exactly how I've felt about Battlestar Galactica. I watched that show faithfully through the finale (speaking of contentious endings) and when it began to reair on BBC America I tried watching a few episodes and just couldn't get back into it. It was brilliant the first time but not palatable for repeat viewing.

The first couple seasons were great, I would say as good as anything on TV at the time.

As soon as I suspected that there was no possible way the writers could wrap anything up satisfactorily, I lost interest, and haven't had the slightest desire to watch reruns.

Sawyer became one of my favorites too later on. The nicknames he gives people absolutely crack me up... among some of my favorties..

Hurley- Gremis, Jabba, Grape Ape, Muttonchops, et al!
Miles- Ghengis
Kate- Freckles (of course)
Jack- Dr. Quinn
Ben- Yoda
Jinn- Sulu
Sun- Tokyo Rose

Im sure I could think of a hundred more, but these are the ones that I remember best. Sawyer's nicknames= epic.

Count me as another one who loved the show, but hated the ending. Throughout the show I thought that I'd want to re-watch the series all over again to see how it made sense. But after the ending, I was so disgusted that I had no desire to.

My favorite characters were Desmond and Faraday. Least favorite character was Kate.

I watched all the seasons this summer because my kids were into it. I must admit I got the fever and was often the one to say "one more episode". But I got frustrated towards the end...it just seemed like the writers were just making **** up all the time. There were also some gaping plot holes (google it). But in the end, yea, I do fondly remember some of the characters and some of the episodes.

Start with some interesting ideas, exploit the **** out of the subsequent popularity, drag it out way too long for the viewer with the proverbial carrot on a stick, try in vein to tie up 7 million senseless loose ends with a weak denoument. Never got the carrot...

It was a cool show to start with but they ran out of ideas after a few years. Turned out to be a turd imo and i didnt even finish it.

LOVED the show... although the last season was a bit of a struggle. We watched the entire thing, front to back, on DVD. I'm another one with zero interest in re-watching.

I didn't HATE the ending, but it was a tad dissappoining. there were too many loose ends. I think the writers couldn't figure out how to end it.
