the 16th fret of my A string of p bass(squier vintage modified) creates massives amounts of buzz when played it only happens on that string and on that fret, it is starting to annoy me now any solution? i raised the action, but i need to raise it around 3mm to get the buzz gone and thats just to high for me the string also seems ok in that part
Any solution? Sure - take it to a bass tech. But I would say that, wouldn't I - since I am a bass tech. It seems as though either the 16 fret is a bit low, or the 17th is a bit high. It may be that the fret isn't seated well or that it hasn't been dressed properly, or there is a bit of a hump in the fingerboard, or there's sympathetic resonance happening somewhere, or the relief/string height is not right or something else. But this is all guess work without examining the bass - which is why it's a good idea to take it to a bass tech. I would suggest that you see if you can find a tech in your area that would give you a diagnosis without charge. Then you can decide if it's something you want to try to fix yourself.
Many notes on all the strings? Relief problem. One note on one string? Fretwork time. A tech can probably fix it for $30 to $50 since it is just one bad fret. Assuming you have *good* files and a lot of skill, in theory you could do it yourself, but that is a fix I'd take to a tech. To confirm the problem, try using a small straight-edge that spans *only* 3 frets. A credit-card is often perfect. See if you can visually tell where a single fret is "too high" or "too low" in the problem area. If you go in sounding like you know your stuff, you'll probably get a better price.
i think i would take it to a tech i am guesing the price is about 10$ or so around here prices are cheapers
