I said it, because OP asked for only 4 speakers in each... I assume because of weight, and then rbonner came and brought up 4x15 cabs (which do exist), which while they have 4 speakers each, would be rather heavy, hence the joke about the OP's question sort of backfiring.


Of course, if OP isn't concerned with weight, then my whole joke was pointless.

Crown 8000 watt stereo power amp, preamp footpedal of choice (your features) and a pair of 4X15 Electro cabs...

So for any of you electrical engineers, if watts = volts X current, how can we get 8000 watts from a typical 120 V (nominal) 20 amp receptacle? Shouldn't we have something like a 2400 watt limit for consumer gear?

Well, you need to go out to the Crown website and take a look at their specs on say an I-Tech 12000. It makes 4500 watts / channel @ 4 Ohms and 7500 watts bridged @ 4 Ohms all through a 20 Amp power cord.

This is Class I digital technology with BOTH a switching amp and switching power supply. This is like making power from nothing, really bizarre for us old LINEAR POWER guys.

This amp draws only 1950W from the wall and just 1 of my SVT-4PRO's draw 1800 Watts to make 1/6th of the power. Now if I could afford the price, I could stack the rack full of I-Techs and still draw less power.

Pretty cool stuff.

I tried to attach the CROWN data sheet on their model BELCHFIRE 6000 SUX, you can download it yourself off the website. The file is too big to attach here.

Yes, I find it very bizarre. My mind can wrap around maybe something like a monster bank of capacitors to supply a short burst, but if it's spec'd something like 8000 watts RMS I guess I just don't understand where the magic comes from.

Yes the darn thing is only 28#...

AMPEG's SVT-8PRO was just 22# and 2500W @2 Ohms, but alas, we'll never see them.
