The condition is referred to as Birdophelia or Parkersons. One of its chief characteristics is the delusion that one has the innate musical talents and abilities of one Charles Parker Jr. and that one has been destined to "channel" his persona via public performances and offerings. Ironically, such patients most often display only limited musical abilities themselves. Those who suffer often appear to be in a drug-induced state ("high," in the vernacular) despite having not been dosed with any psychoactive substance.

There is currently no known cure, although a number of practitioners have suggested that some benefit may be realized by refraining from encouraging patients with the disease from engaging in their prototypical displays.

One anecdotal report suggests that asking patients to ponder the functional musical difference between the notes B and Cb provides temporary cessation of symptoms. When symptoms return, another pair of analogous notes can be chosen (e.g., E and Fb) but such a scheme is of obvious limited benefit.

Hysterical! That was fantastic, Les! On the serious side, this guy may suffer from something like anosognosia as did the bank robber described in this incredible article by Errol Morris. This is one of the best things I have read in the past year or so. This story gave rise to a saying in our household to describe people who are too incompetent to realize that they are incompetent. We call that "wearing the juice." Check it out.
