Love

Im tired of people telling me that they love someone when their actions prove otherwise. Guy tells me that he loves her and cant live without her and then treats her bad and takes her for granted and then feels bad when it crashes and burns and their both heart broken. This is happening everywhere I look. People who are in "love" with each other constantly fighting and being "off and on" with each other. Seems the love only lasts as long as the good and happy feelings last. I think the problem is that people misunderstand the L word. Theres a difference between like and love. Like is something you feel, love is something you do, even when you don't feel like it. Any thoughts?

People expect a SO to bring them happiness when they don't have any. Which is wrong, you first need to be happy with yourself if you want to be happy with others.

Otherwise it's a temporary fix, in a vicious circle lots of people will probably never escape.

One of the worst things to be injected to the pop culture is the phrase from the movie "Love Story". "Love means never having to say you're sorry". BS. Love means ALWAYS having to say you're sorry. Good relationships take work. Loving someone is the greatest gift that can be given, and if it is taken for granted or abused nothing will hurt worse.

True, there are some people that seem to thrive on being abused... but (IMHO) they suffer from a poor self image and are incapable of giving love themselves.

Its a complex issue and our daily language is not equiped with enough words to deal with it. "Love" has so many different levels and meanings that it is nearly worthless as a word.

And so the game continues.

Love takes work. It just doesn't happen. If you think that love means never ever fighting and being happy all the time... you're sadly mistaken. Real love is when you have your fights and work out the differences. You can't flee at the first sign of hardship.

I agree 100% on having to be happy with yourself before having a SO. I didn't get a boyfriend until I was comfortable with being myself and just taking life as it came and being happy with it.
