Loving ASD and iReal Pro!

I’ve been using Amazing Slow Downer for about 6 months now. My bands play lots of tunes in different keys for various singers, and the key shift is clutch. I also find the tempo shift is amazing for learning by ear, or those tough tunes that are just slightly out of reach. Usually just 90% speed is enough to close the gap.

I’ve had iReal pro for about a month now. Before, I was practicing my walking bass with a metronome or drum track (whenever I wasn’t playing to a recording.) But I find that the piano track really helps me memorize the progression, and let’s me branch out harmonically. Plus, like ASD, the pitch and tempo shifts are incredibly helpful.

These two apps have become a key component in my daily routine. If anyone is on the fence about them, I highly recommend checking them out!

I’ll have to check them out; I’ve been using Guitar Tabs with Rhythm | Songsterr to slow down and learn tunes.
That looks pretty cool!

My banjo player has been raving about strum machine for his students. Play along tracks for bluegrass, country and fiddle tunes. I think it’s more like iReal though, in that it’s just backing track and no melody.

I know there’s a ton of resources out there. I haven’t really shopped around much; just stumbled onto these two and they’re so user friendly and they do everything I need.

One thing I love about ASD is sourcing music from anywhere. iTunes, Spotify… I can even rip mp3s from YouTube and run them through ASD.

I use both, they are great. Worth having the paid versions.

I also use "Tempo" and "Drum Genius".

Tempo is a great metronome. And Drum Genius has real drum patterns, taken out of albums.

This is my music apps folder:

I’ve been using Pro Metronome for years. My drum app is Drum Beats +.

All I ask of my metronome is that it has a “tap” button and the click isn’t an annoying woodblock or beep (I typically use hi hat.)

My Drum app has a pretty good library, with extras available for more $; but I usually stick with the same 4 in different styles (straight, swing, 3/4 and 6/8.)

How do you like Functional Ear Trainer?

It's cool, it's a good app, and it's useful. I'm just not very good at it!

Been exploring the forum for iReal pro. It can take a few tries to get a correct chart (reminding me of Ultimate Guitar searches), and there’s a lot to wade through. But the fact that there’s a network of charts to share is pretty cool. And being able to edit the charts makes any mistakes a non-issue.

Ive also just discovered some preprogrammed exercises in the app. Awesome!
