low end Carvin basses

I just bought a carvin I think it is a BK 50 not totally sure on that though...It has a humbucker in the bridge and J99 in the neck... Since I just bought it recently I haven't had a lot of time to really dig into the electronics and maybe someone out there can help me out a little...Okay it has five knobs and a little switch...I am thinking 3 of the knobs are eq and two are volume and the switch flips between passive and active...now really sure tho...like I said I haven't gotten a lot of time with it and I'm new to this bass and the electronics so don't judge please...So let me know if you have any idea's of what the knobs all do...lol

That is one of the older B5K, the kit version of what became the B50. You can tell by the pointer horns, electronics arrangement, and the narrower string spacing. IMO the B5 was a much better design than the B50. I have a B5 I got from the in stock section and a B50 I built from a kit and they dont compare. I love the three Carvin basses I have, but to me they stopped being an option when they went to the wider string spacing. When I got my B50 kit, the Carvin rep checked for me and said they had only five B5 bodies left and only one B5 neck left, and it was fretless.

I think that is one of the older kits, the BK5A....because it looks to have a Hipshot B-style bridge. The BK50 has the newer bridge that was introduced with the SB, and is still used on the JB an PB. It also has the older-style preamp knob configuration. The BK50A Control layout is straight like a Jazz bass....though I believe the newest versions of the BK50 have a slight arc to the knob layout.

The switch should be a coil tap. A/P is usually handled by a push/pull volume pot in their preamps.

I have played other 5 string basses and the necks have been too wide...(smaller hands) but this one plays so nice that doesn't seem to be a problem...it does sound nice..and its light..must be alder, ash or some kind of lightweight wood....

well now I have it all figured out...the master volume, blend...3 band eq...switch coil split...push pull, A / P.....I love the electronics in this...so cool...and a variety of sounds to get...but I usually find one I really like and stick with that one...

I wonder ( not that I care really) because they are a kit bass there's a knock on them for that...I mean as the guy playing it, I see it as a really nice bass...weird because I played a 73 jazz bass and I thought this bass played better...sorry, to keep going on...ya know how it is when you get a "new" bass...

There’s no reason to knock it because it’s a kit...it is perhaps one of the best kits available. The same production quality as their “custom” instruments goes into their kits...the end user just has to finish them.

The one in your picture above is very similar to my B5 (only the color/headstock are different). I LOVE the neck on that one. My B50 is the one with the wider neck, and it isnt as comfortable for me to play. I like the narrower spacing of the B5.

I have the same electronics in the B5 as yours, minus the coil splitter switch. I tend to boost the bass a bit, the mids just a smidge past the detent, and cut the highs back past the detent about the same as I boost the highs. That is my go-to setting.
