So, let me just say I am not a gear head so if there is an obvious answer to this I apologize.
I was looking into purchasing a used set of mid to early 90's Trace Elliot cabs (410 and 115) from my drummers other bass player. I went to try them out and I was really shocked at how little volume was getting out of them. He was powering it with a 350 Watt Ampeg head and I was really surprised at how low it was with how much I had the master volume cranked.
His bass was lying around so I was curious as to what would happen if I plugged that in. MASSIVE difference. Huge booming sound. It was really unbelievable how much changed.
Not being a gear head the only thing I really could see as a difference was the I was using stock BC rich pickups (P style) and his ESP had some soap bar EMGs. Both are active.
Now I know EMG's probably kick the crap outta what I'm using, but I did not think that the brand would make a huge difference in volume getting pushed.
Next practice I'm bringing in my two other basses (one if another bc rich with stock pick ups and the other is a Schecter with EMG's) and I'm going to see what happens when I try those.
In the mean time I was wondering if someone with a better understanding of electronics could tell me what else could be causing the issue. Could it be faulty wiring or something of that nature?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
