I know this is an old thread but what the heck. I'm recording my band's album with zero budget, using a borrowed Behringer XR-18 or my M-Audio MobilePre as the interface, and recording to my MacBook Pro using GarageBand. I'm a long time advocate of biamping my bass for live performance and am doing pretty much the same for my bass tracks on the album. They get recorded clean, then I copy and Paste Replace a duplicate to a second track. Each then gets EQ'd so that there is a high and a low bass track. One advantage to this is that I can make the HPF bass a little louder for parts where I want it to be heard in the mix, without adding a lot more low end energy. I also add effects such as chorus, flanger and ambience to the HPF track only a la John Entwhistle and leave the LPF track alone except for EQ and compression. GarageBand has HPF and LPF plugins as well but I'm doing the same thing with EQ. It's working out well so far, and it's a completely software based solution.

For software, it's the Fabfilter Pro-Q3. It's got all of that Filtering stuff.
