Low profile control knobs? (jazz bass)

So I am currently plotting out a Warmoth build and as I suspected it is taking me forever to pull the trigger because I need to make sure everything is just right for what I want.

Right now I have the neck and body all figured out so I've moved on to hardware and electronics.

I'm looking at making a 5 string jazz bass and the one thing I am a bit nervous about is the placement of the control knobs. I tend to play like a gorilla and when I get a bit "into it" on stage or even at practice I am really worried about smashing my knuckles on those knobs.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good low profile control option for this type of situation.

I have already looked into Pro-Dials (Link Removed) and I think that would be awesome but I do not know if there is enough spacing between the holes on a standard jazz control plate cover to use them.

Any suggestions?

I agree those pro-dials look smart, and the specification tab on the site tells you the size. You'll want to check whether they need some extra space cut below the pick-guard..I'm not familiar with the Warmouth bodies. But you can establish that quite easily. As you can see, you'll need to open up the hole in the control plate.

I'm interested in what your playing style is though, that might hit your knuckles on the knobs. Do you strum with a pick, like rhythm guitar? Most players seem to be concerned to find a fixed point for the right hand, or the wrist, so as to be able to feel where the strings are. And...after taking so much care in building, if your hand is in danger from the bass the bass will be in danger from your hand!

Thanks for the info Osprey.

Basically I am a really heavy handed pick player. Now about 99% of the time I am no where hitting those control knobs but sometimes I do some pretty hard single chord hits where my hand just kinda does its own thing and sweeps across 4 or 5 strings.

Its not the usual but I figured if I'm spending the time/money to get what I want I might as well plan for that 1% where I might be uncomfortable.
