And, man is this thing loud, and amazing.
I find the SVT3PRO has more punch and girth powering this cab than the 1000w Carvin. Even with the bias off a bit on the Ampeg, I prefer it. Not sure if it will damage the speakers though.
In fact, I kind of like the harmonic distortion and grit I got with the off-biased Ampeg. Again, not sure if this would damage my cab.
I've read countless reports of unhappy customers with their SVT410HLF - mainly that there are no mids and it's too scooped. But this PR actually has too much mids for me. Kind of boxy sounding. But again, the SVT3PRO is mated perfect for this cab as the middle 3 graphic eq sliders tame these boxy mids pretty well.
Not perfectly tamed, but good enough for now. I only do negative EQ'ing on the graphic, but I'm going to need to experiment more to get the perfect sound for me. I may need to adventure into boasting the highs and lows to combat the boxy mids.
Anyone come across this situation and found a good remedy?
I'm even considering doing some tube rolling in the preamp.
Also, thank God for the 40hz slider on the SVT3PRO. It keeps the boom nonexistent by cutting the 40hz most of the way.
Honestly, good on Ampeg for designing the 3pro and the PR-HLF to work together so well.
The dial for tweeter pad is great as it allows fine tuning compared to a few-way switch I've had on other cabs.
Next time I'm at my rig, I'll take a pic of my EQ settings for y'alls
