Lowe Custom Bass - Chromasonic

:D

That is an interesting body style.
How do you like the tilted rear pickup? Seems like it would be a little awkward?
I see they have a more "traditional'' rear pickup placement...have you had a chance to compare?
The headstock shape does remind me of a bottle opener...handy when your playing parties :)

never compared the traditional with my tilted pickup ,
but i can tell you that the Lollar T-Bird will not disappoint .
not awkward at all , Brad did some research into the placement ,
and i think it worked out very well in this case .
very ballsy , and the tilt just seems to add a little extra twang , imo .
It looks like a spaceship from a vintage sci-fi comic book or something.
That's a good thing, by the way.
I love the chrome covered pickups.
i ordered and installed two black chrome Lollar pickups for my old Warmoth bass ,
and the tone is just incredible .
a major improvement over the old Bartolini's i originally installed ...

Thanks Dave!

The Lollar TBirds are really something special.

The original reason for tilting the bridge rout was that I was planning to use a Fralin split single (Twangmaster) under a chrome humbucker cover with no holes.

It is a 6-pole guitar pickup with split-coils like a P bass, and tilting the pickup maximized the string spacing at the bridge position.

With the TBird pickup, the tilt is not necessary, but may have some influence on the tone.

let me start by introducing you to Brad Lowe
www.lowecustomguitars.com

after talking to Brad , i ordered his prototype bass , the Chromasonic .

after my first gig with this bass , i realised that my much loved G&L's and Fender Precison basses
would have to take a back seat to this newcomer ...

here is a shot from Brad's website ...

the weight is a little more than my P-basses , but the bass is well balanced , with little or no neck dive ...

Lollar ThunderBird pickups provide incredible
punch and warmth , big and fat without being muddy .
the AllParts neck has a very comfortable ,
familiar feel .

the body shape and headstock design , love 'em or hate 'em , are stand out features that
separate this bass from anything else i own or have ever played ...

here's a few recent gig shots ...

Looking like this I hope they sound really really good.:smug:

Hi Dave, was this yours? Its at a music go round San Antonio right now, was thinking of buying it. I did message Brad here and he gave me a small history of it being a prototype. I just found your thread here and thought i'd post in it,

yes , that was mine .
it's great bass , awesome tone and feel ,
just had too many basses and had to sell some ...

I feel like I have been watching Brad's stuff since he started, seeing some of the stuff over on ReRanch or TDPRI. I've always admired his designs and ability to make stuff that seemed familiar yet unique. Some and vaguely reminiscent of Reverends, although much nicer looking. I personally love the headstock design. His stuff always looks really well thought out and appointed. If I was someone with more dispoable funds I'd probably have a few of them.

Agreed! Love Brad's designs. That price looks like a steal.
