Also, contrary to what was stated above most manufacturers apply a finish like that by tinting at least the first few clear coats after the wood is sealed and leveled. The color ends up much more consistent and even then a stain or dye on the wood. They may have applied more clear of the candy or color coats then leveled and buffed.

Nice bass, I believe my Godlyke Prototype Disciple was made in the same factory. Body is Sen with a very light matt finish. IO swear that it is one piece because for the life of me i can't see a joint. Three piece maple neck, ebony board, Gotoh hard wear with a D tuner. I am a big fan of Japanese Sen now, i've also seen some really nice Nato wood grains out there too.
