Lunar eclipse, March 13th, 2025

There will be a total lunar eclipse on the evening of March 13th, 2025 visible from North and South America.

It should look something like this:

As bona fide Eclipse Chasers, my wife and I were super-thrilled to hear about this

...until we looked at the local weather report. 100% chance of rain during the hours that the eclipse occurs.

Now we have to figure out just how bona fide our bona fides are: We've travelled over 10 hours by car to see the last two total solar eclipses. So just how far are we willing to travel to escape the rain clouds and see this Blood Moon lunar eclipse?

Answer: Not very.

For whatever it's worth, lunar eclipses are more common than solar eclipses, so these I don't "chase." I haven't even kept count of the number of them I've seen from our own front yard.

That said, between the weather forecast here for Friday (rain/storms), and the local timing (~2:30 AM start!), I'll probably be somewhere in dreamland.

The local weather guy said we'd have clouds and probably not able to see anything, but a friend convinced me stay up and check it out. Here are some pics they shared with me.

Nice! I set up a spotting scope on tripod, took some "test shots" around 10:30 p.m., fell asleep and didn't wake up until 4 a.m., so I missed it!...

i watched it here in ky, it was pretty cool. No telescope but had binoculars
