Double Bass Luthiers in Budapset

Martin (et al)

If you go to the UK Contrabass Shoppe site and click the link for the Brock swedish bass (Top Quality Inst), Tony actually tells the story of how the Hungarian (not AB) tried to pass it off as a Maggini and nearly stumped the panel with their work.

In Budapest also lives and works the Konya family, respectable luthiers for at least three generations. Their shop is near the Luiza Blaha station, behind the Novotel Hotel. Try a search in Yahhoo and you'll find the exact whereabouts of their shop. I tried some of their violins and they were awsome instruments, but never laid hands in one of their basses.
