lyrics that don't make sence

The song's history began when Lennon was inspired by Timothy Leary's campaign for governor of California titled "Come together, join the party" against Ronald Reagan, which promptly ended when Leary was sent to prison for possession of marijuana.[5] It has been speculated that each verse refers cryptically to each of the Beatles (e.g. "he's one holy roller" allegedly refers to the spiritually inclined George Harrison; "he got monkey finger, he shoot Coca-Cola" to Ringo Starr, the funny Beatle; "he got Ono sideboard, he one spinal cracker" to Lennon himself; and "got to be good-looking 'cause he's so hard to see" to Paul McCartney); however, it has also been suggested that the song has only a single "pariah-like protagonist" and Lennon was "painting another sardonic self-portrait".[6]

Very interesting, never heard that. I know the first line of the song was lifted directly from You Can't Catch Me by Chuck Berry.

"Mountains come out of the sky and they stand there", I sort of get that one but the rest of Jon Andersens lyrics are very strange. I would love to sit down and ask him about the inspiration for some of those YES songs and what all that cryptic gibberish is about.

Soul Coughing "super bon bon"

Don't rightly understand but, I like.......

Also, killer bass line......

Move aside
And let the man go through
Let the man go through - through

If I stole
Somebody else's wave
To fly up

If I rose up
Up with the avenue
Behind me

Some kind of verb
Some kind of moving thing
Something unseen
Some hand is motioning
To rise, to rise, to rise

Too fat, fat, you must cut lean
You gotta take the elevator through the mezzanine,
Chump, change, and it's on, super bon bon
Super bon bon, super bon bon

And by
The phone
I live
In fear
Sheer chance
Will draw
You in
To here

Too fat, fat, you must cut lean
You gotta take the elevator through the mezzanine,
Chump, change, and it's on, super bon bon
Super bon bon, super bon bon

Super bon bon, super bon bon
Super bon bon, super bon bon
Super bon bon, super bon bon
Super bon, bon, bon, bon
Move a, and let the man go, let the man go,
Move a, and let the man go, let the man go,
Move a, and let the man go, let the man go,
Move a, and let the man go, let the man go through

Move aside, and let the man go through
Let the man go through

I always got the impression from his lyrics that he read a lot of religious tomes.

You gotta beep a gunk a chucha
Honk konk konk
You gotta each you puna
Each ya bop a luba
Each yall bump a kechonk
Ease sum konk
Ya, ride

A classic tune from Traffic, 'Dream Gerrard':

And it's a fact, you are cold
They react, dream Gerrard

Hippos don't wear hats
Lobsters shriek if provoked
On long blue ribbons

That he may see
While he sleeps

Monsieur old Neddy
He wears spectacles in
Bed that he
May see dreams more clearly

The night, it will be black
And white raven croaking
I am thirsty, die

They won't let it be
They think it should be done
With reality

I scream from a skull
Fritz, bring your wigwam

They won't let it be
They think it should be done
With reality, with reality

They won't let it be
They think it should be done
With reality, with reality

They won't let it be
They think it should be done
With reality, with reality

They think it should be done
They think it should be done
With reality, with reality
With reality, with reality

They think it should be done
With reality, with reality

They won't let it be
They think it should be done
With reality, with reality
With reality, with reality

I didn't read back through the thread so I may have posted this story in 2007 when it originated.

I saw an interview with the singer for REM once. They asked him why he used a music stand on stage. His response....

"Have you ever heard the lyrics to our sings??? They make no sense at all. I have to have the music stand so I can remember the words!"

..........or something like that.

As one who can sing "it's the end of the world as we know it" by heart, I can relate to this. :)

A bunch of early Cars songs.

"I'm a psilocybin pony
You're a flick fandango phony"

"Dance by the window in flamingo pink
Go through the motions in your Romeo mink"

Strawberry Letter 23
Snap, and I was just getting the lyrics. BEautiful sound despite the crzay lyrics.

Brothers Johns, Strawberry Letter 23.
File under: Weird visuals.

Hello, my love
I heard a kiss from you
Red magic satin playing near, too

All through the morning rain
I gaze - the sun doesn't shine -
Rainbows and waterfalls run through my mind

In the garden - I see west
Purple shower, bells and tea
Orange birds and river cousins dressed in green

Pretty music I hear - so happy
And loud - blue flower echo
From a cherry cloud

Feel sunshine sparkle pink and blue
Playgrounds will laugh
if you try to ask
Is it cool?, is it cool?

If you arrive and don't see me
I'm going to be with my baby
I am free - flying in her arms, over the sea

Stained window, yellow candy screen
See speakers of kite - with velvet roses diggin' freedom flight

A present from you - Strawberry letter 22
The music plays, I sit in for a few

Ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...

A present from you - Strawberry letter 22
The music plays, I sit in for a few

Ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...

Here is a song that the lyrics do not make much sense at all. I used to sing it and the interesting thing is that the absurdity of the lyrics made it easier to memorize to sing it.

The Fixx - One Thing Leads To Another

The deception with tact
Just what are you trying to say?
You've got a blank face, which irritates
Communicate, pull out your party piece

You see dimensions in two
State your case with black or white
But when one little cross leads to shots, grit your teeth
You run for cover so discreet

Why don't they do what you say?
Say what you mean oh, babe
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong
I know I listen too long but then
One thing leads to another

The impression that you sell
Passes in and out like a scent
But the long face that you see
Comes from living close to your fears

If this is up and I'm up, but your running out of sight
You've seen your name on the walls
And when one little bump leads to shock, miss a beat
You run for cover and there's heat

Why don't they do what they say?
Say what they mean
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong
I know I listen too long but then
One thing leads to another
Yeah yeah yeah
(One thing)
(One one thing leads to another)

But it's easy to believe, somebody's been lying to me
But when the wrong word goes in the right ear
I know you've been lying to me
It's getting rough off the cuff
I've got to say enough's enough

Bigger the harder he falls
But when the wrong antidote
Is like a bulge on the throat
You run for cover in the heat

Why don't they do what the say?
Say what they mean
One thing leads to another
You tell me something wrong
I know I listen too long but then
One thing leads to another
Yeah, yeah

(One thing, one thing leads to another)
(One thing, one thing leads to another)
(One thing, one thing leads to another)
One thing leads to another
(One thing, one thing leads to another)
(One thing, one thing leads to another)
(One thing)
