on the subject of screen size, go for the smallest, get a seperate monitor , and come out WAY ahead on price.
I've got a 12" powerbook and never had a problem - I do graphics programming. The Mac is a lot more efficient on screen space than Windows thanks to the HIDE function - I just can't live without it. I've og tit hookwed up to a 17" lcd at home, and run it dual screen.
The big laptops have all the bells and whistles but you have to carry that to college every day. Get the small one. Even at home the small one takes up less desk space, so the dual monitor set up is more managable.
Big laptops miss the point of laptops all together - it needs to go with you everywhere, so needs to be mobile.
I just got my wife the entry level MacBook and it's a really great machine - I wouldn't go to the pro's unless someone else is paying!
