Mid oct announcement. I'm moving up to a 32 ch board next year... hope they get it right. I'm guessing they did for the most part.

i seriously want the big snake over cat 5 functionality in my next board even though it will devalue a hundred pounds of copper I already own.

... and 32 plus 2 track capture. ... and needs no router .... and, crap - I could go all day. I guess I hope they make it really hard forme to pick Presonus or Behinger. If they do that, it will be good...

i just saw this like 5 minutes ago!

presonus is coming out with a 16 or 32 ch "black box" studiolive too, and the behringer x32 rack is already a thing; i guess it's a matter of "may the best ipad interface win!"

(frankly i wonder about negotiating that many channels with an ipad, that has to be a lot of flipping back and forth; now if you could get 2 ipads and sync them to sit side by side and show adjacent channels...)

Interesting. I'd been thinking about an X32 rack for small gigs worth recording; I'd better have a look at what Presonus is cooking up on that front.

You're running a DL1608, right? You could do this now w/ wifi and a couple of iPad clip mounts. Pretty spendy, though, if you don't already have two iPads.

I agree with the sentiment that it will become a battle of the remote control functionality at some point. I've always preferred tactile faders, knobs and switches, so does anyone else think that there will be development of a lightweight, programmable, wireless hardware mixing surface that is less confining and quirky than iPad/tablet interfaces? Better yet, a control surface that will dock the iPad/iphone (but not power it, to keep everything wireless) to use the screen as the visual reference for the hardware knobs/switches on the control surface? Hmmmm? Hmmm?

IDK. For my money, the decision hangs on quite a few factors.

Form

• footprint
• amount of front-panel control (some units have their own small touch screen; different units have various physical controls)

Connectivity

• digital snake i/o
• # of auxes (and ability to configure them as stereo auxes)
• flexible & expandable i/o and routing
  
• i/o cards (value and function)
  
• ability to link units
• ease of wifi control (the fewer cables and gizmos hanging off the rack, the better)
• multitracking capabilities, ease, signal path, and reliability

Control Software

• learning curve
• GUI
• bugs/quirkiness

General Quality

• hardware reliability (real and perceived)
• sonic quality of the mic preamps and software FX/processing

Price

Not if you've spent quality time with one... Or two... I dig the little dl-806 I picked up but sound quality wise, it isn't in the same league as our 16.4.2 boards. The SL boards might not be exciting but they are really, really good sounding boards.

So far I think the Soundcraft boards are the ones to beat sonically. They do get spendy though... The Presonus is close.

yeah i have spent time with one...they just don't sound good, and the price for them (new) is crazy, considering the allen & heath QU's are around the same price...and do multii-track straight to a hard drive and also playback from said hard drive...

do get me wrong, there was a time where they were the forefront, but now as tech has changes, presonus fell behind i believe and are still behind, they are juts trying to reinvent their own wheels and falling behind but not realising...
